Chief Technology Officer, Bill Worzel, will discuss the use of genetic programming to discover a 3-gene signature of metastasis in bladder cancer. This signature identifies nodal metastases from primary tumor tissue from quantitative RT-PCR data. The method used to discover this signature is described and the broader significance of this approach to clinical applications including personalized medicine is discussed.

Genetics Squared will participate in the session chaired by Dr. Terry Osborn where we will discuss "The Use of Genetic Programming to Identify Biomarkers Associated with Metastasis in Bladder Cancer." This is a collaboration with the Richard Cote Laboratory of the University of Southern California that discovered a simple set of biomarkers taken from quantitative RT-PCR data that identify nodal involvement from primary tumor tissue. The technology used to develop this signature and its potential clincal impact will be discussed.
